Thresholds at White Cube Hong Kong

Thresholds looks at how nine artists work with ‘thresholds’ as moments of change shaped by light and dark. The presentation at White Cube Hong Kong brings together practices that consider polarity in balance, because each artist deals with transformation through personal or cultural experience. The idea becomes clearer when their works show transition as a process that happens in daily life.

The presentation also explores how artists use myth, embodiment and ritual to understand change in their own contexts. Some look inward, while others refer to cosmology or communal traditions, since these references help them describe ongoing cycles. Their approaches vary, but they share an interest in how stories, symbols and materials guide the body. The exhibition frames these methods as parallel ways of working through continuity and renewal. It also points to the role of the maternal force, which shapes how transitions are understood and how artists respond to inherited structures.
