Kashmiri-born artist Raqib Shaw presents The Pragmatic Pessimist, where he gathers memory and history into a dreamlike painting.
This work is is part of his solo exhibition, Space Between Dreams.
Shaw creates a work so detailed and ornate, it almost feels like a dream. Polar bears gather on sheets of ice, fire, and scattered objects surround a figure with a robe. In this work, Shaw brings together memory and history into an imaginary world to capture the fragility of something that appears majestically standing.
